Research Interests

I am interested in active and ancient plate boundary processes, with primary interest in the process of continental rifting leading to rupture and the formation of new oceanic lithosphere. My expertise lies in linkage between structural geology and applied geophysics, including seismicity, plate flexure, and geodetic data.

Active research programs include the East African rift system in Ethiopia and Tanzania, and continental rupture in the Gulf of Aden and southern Australia. These programs focus on the role of magma intrusion in achieving plate rupture, and the modification of continental and oceanic plates within mantle plume provinces.
