Audrey is an undergraduate environmental science and history major completing a senior research project on iodine isotopes and halogens in geothermal fluids from New Zealand. In July 2003, she and Glen Snyder, a recent PhD graduate, sampled fluids from hot springs and cold seeps (also known as mud volcanoes) along the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island (see picture). She is now running these samples using ion chromatography (IC) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) at the University of Rochester for ion concentrations, and will work with data from Purdue’s AMS on iodine isotope ratios in order to learn more about subduction processes in this area. |
Nils just started in the Cosmogenic Isotope Lab this semester. He will work on halogen systematics and the iodine isotope system in a variety of geologic situations, most likely on fluids collected from main arc and fore arc settings in Japan. He will also get involved into projects on pore fluids from gas hydrate reservoirs such as Hydrate Ridge and Nankai Trough. Since he is also the local computer wizard, questions on the website etc. should be directed to him. | ||||
